Product Care
Caring properly for your recliner sofa is essential for its longevity.
- Ensure that the recliner is placed a suitable distance from the wall so the seat can recline fully without any obstruction or damage to the wall itself.
- Ensure that the foot rest is fully retracted prior to standing and exiting the seat.
- Always take care to keep hands and feet clear of moving parts.
- Never sit on the footrest when the sofa is in a reclined position.
- While recliners are comfortable, they are designed for sitting on and reclining. These sofas are not designed to be used for sleeping or a replacment for a bed.
- Always move a recliner sofa by the base of the frame, never used the fixed sewn in pannels or cushions to drag the sofa. Never pull or drag sofa by head rest. Take care when moving recliner sofa, as the mechanism components can be heavy. Do not attempt to move unit by yourself.
- To ensure the comfort and performance of seat and back padding, it is required to refresh your cushions by plumping them where possible and altering your seating choice regularily.
- Follow care instrutions for care and cleaning of specific upholstery types.
Power recliners
- Take care cords are free from any moving parts prior to plugging in.
- Prior to use, ensure that all connection cords are properly connected and the power is turned on at the outlet.
- When cleaning or moving the sofa, always disconnect the eletrical cord by switching off at the power outlet and removing plug from outlet.
Sofa Maintenence:
- Try to utilise all seating and rotate the cushions where possible to ensure even wearing at least one a week.
- If there are cushions that are feather-filled, they will need to be 'beaten up' regularly to retain their shape.
- If the cushions are left for long periods of time without any care they will flatten.
Wearing in a sofa:
If your new sofa looks and feels a little different to the one you saw in store (it may feel a bit firmer and the fabric a bit tighter), that's because your sofa is brand new and hasn't had the chance to be worn in by many visitors, like the display model has had the opportunity to receive in store.
Give your sofa time to gradually 'wear in' and adapt to your way of life and it will then develop a more casual appearance, each with its own unique character.
- Avoid positioning your furniture in direct sunlight where it will fade.
- Your upholstered item should be placed at least 1m away from any heat source.
- When moving your sofa, the best way is to lift it from the base. Avoid dragging it around by the arms or any sewn in cushions, as this may potentially damage the arm or cushion, but also could potentially damage the stability of the sofa legs
- Do not use detergents or cleaning chemicals, as this could further mark the fabric. Use of the Guardsman care products, following the manufacturer's instructions, is recommended.
- A vacuum with an upholstery brush attachment can be used to remove dust and other environmental debris from the upholstery, and under seat cushions (if applicable). Dust/grime can mark the fabric and be harder to clean if left.
- We do recommend professional dry cleaning only. If the covers are removable, you can take them into the dry cleaners. If not, have the sofa professionally cleaned in place at home.
- If the cushions are interchangeable and should be rotated to share the wear. When unwrapping your new sofa, avoid using any sharp tools that may accidently damage the sofa’s upholstery
- Avoid sitting on armrests and backrests, as they have not been designed as additional seating
- Dye Transfer - certain clothing and accessory dyes (such as those used on denim jeans) may migrate to lighter colours. This is increased by humidity and temperature and is irreversible.
- Pilling is a sign of everyday wear and is not an indication of a fabric fault. Use of a de-pilling tool should form part of your regular care and maintenance.
Assembly
Sinking into your new sofa is the easy part, but first there's a bit of putting-together to do. Assembly ranges from something as easy as screwing on the legs, through to clasping modular sections together or some flat-pack assembly, which takes a little longer. Returns Policy
We understand the importance of customer satisfaction and therefore products may at ESR NZ discretion be returned to us for exchange for a store credit note within seven (7) days of full payment and collection/delivery of the goods, provided all the following conditions are met:
- A receipt as proof of purchase of ownership may be required by ESR NZ to be produced.
- Returned goods are received in a re-saleable condition, including any packaging if possible
- Goods are returned to the location they were originally purchased from or an alternative pre-arranged location.
For Online and store purchases not viewed in a showroom prior to delivery, they can be returned for a full refund (less any delivery cost) within 7 days of receiving/collecting the product/s. The above conditions will still need to be met.
